2. How CyberGuard works
CyberGuard contains a scam-detection engine (rules plus a small machine-learning model) that runs inside the app. When you check a message, the text is analysed on your phone or in your browser and the result is shown to you. We do not operate a server that receives the messages you check in the Android app.
3. Permissions and the data they touch
| Feature / permission | What it accesses | How it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Message Guard Notification access (optional, off by default) |
The title, sender name and text of new notifications, and the name of the app that posted them (for example Messages, WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail). | Each new notification is checked for scam signs on your device. Non-scam content is discarded immediately and is not stored. If a message looks like a scam, CyberGuard shows you a warning and saves that message to the on-device history so you can review it. Notification content is never uploaded, sold or shared, and is never used for advertising. We do not reply to, dismiss or change your notifications. You can turn this off at any time in Android Settings > Notification access, or pause it in CyberGuard Settings. |
| Call Guard Microphone (optional) |
Sound picked up by the microphone while you have pressed "Start listening" (for example a call on speaker). | Audio is converted to text by your phone's speech-recognition service and the text is checked for scam signs on your device. When your phone supports on-device recognition, the audio does not leave the phone. Otherwise your phone's speech service provider (for example Google) processes the audio under its own privacy policy. CyberGuard does not record or store audio. A transcript is kept only while the screen is open, except that calls flagged as dangerous are saved as text to your on-device history. |
| QR / UPI checker Camera (optional) |
The live camera image while the QR scanner is open. | Used only to read QR codes, on your device. No photos or video are saved. QR reading uses Google ML Kit, which may send anonymous diagnostic data (such as API usage and performance information and device type, but not your camera images or the QR contents) to Google. See Google ML Kit terms. |
| Clipboard Guard Clipboard (optional setting) |
Text you copied, read when you open CyberGuard. | Checked on your device. If it looks risky, you see a warning. Clipboard text is not stored unless you choose to open the full check. |
| Notifications | Permission to show notifications. | To show scam alerts. |
| Vibration, internet, network state | No personal data. | Vibration for alerts. Internet only to open links you tap (for example helplines or report pages) and, if your phone needs it, for its speech service. |
CyberGuard does not request access to your SMS inbox, contacts, call logs, location, photos or files.
4. What is stored on your device
- Check history: up to 200 recent checks (first 600 characters of the text, the score, the scam type and any numbers or links found inside risky messages).
- Your feedback: messages you mark as "scam" or "fine", used to personalise the on-device model.
- Settings and counters: theme, sound, vibration, Clipboard Guard and Message Guard settings, quiz best score, days you used the app, and how many messages Message Guard checked.
This data stays in the app's private storage on your device. We cannot see it.
5. When data leaves your device
- When you share a result with "Warn family", your phone's share sheet sends a summary and a link that contains the message text to the app and people you choose.
- Speech recognition (Call Guard), when your phone does not support on-device recognition, as described above.
- Google ML Kit diagnostics from the QR scanner, as described above.
- Links you open (helplines, report pages) open in your browser or phone app.
6. Web app, Hub and API
- Web app: checks run in your browser. History and settings are stored in your browser's local storage on your device.
- Hub verdict pages (
/check?text=…) and the CyberGuard API: the text you submit is sent to our server (Google Firebase) to compute the result and is not saved by us. Anyone who has a verdict link can see the text it contains, so only share links with people you trust. - Our hosting provider, Google Firebase, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of request) for security and reliability, for a limited period under Google's policies. We use no advertising or analytics cookies.
7. Sharing and third parties
We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with anyone. We use these service providers:
- Google Firebase (Hosting, Cloud Functions, App Hosting) to run the web app, Hub and API. Firebase privacy.
- Google ML Kit for QR reading in the Android app.
- Your device's speech-recognition service for Call Guard.
We may disclose information if required by Indian law or a valid legal order. Because we do not hold your messages, there is usually nothing to disclose.
8. Retention and deletion
- On-device data is kept until you delete it: CyberGuard Settings > Delete my data, Android Settings > Apps > CyberGuard > Storage > Clear data, or by uninstalling the app.
- To stop Message Guard, turn off CyberGuard in Android Settings > Notification access.
- Full instructions: Delete your data.
9. Security
On-device data is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read. All connections to our servers use HTTPS encryption. No method is 100% secure, but we keep the data we touch to a minimum.
10. Children
CyberGuard is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) and, where applicable, the GDPR, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal data, withdraw consent, and raise a grievance. Because almost all data stays on your device, you can exercise these rights directly in the app. For anything else, email pa2@skillizee.io. We reply within 30 days.
12. Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Questions or complaints: pa2@skillizee.io (Skillizee, grievance officer for CyberGuard).
CyberGuard helps you spot warning signs. It cannot guarantee that a message is safe or fraudulent. See our Terms of Use.
